August 2005 - Greenacre Scarecrow Festival entrant....

This August Bank holiday has seen Flamborough taken over by its first scarecrow festival! There are pirates, local legends from days gone by and even mythical creatures on the roofs and in the gardens of the buildings of Flamborough. Organised by the RNLI there was a map for sale to raise funds on a designated tour of the village - though it was a suprise to find one on your way to the shops.

Even Greenace had its own entrant created by owner Susan Tasker.

"My name is Sir John Clayton and in 1673-74, I was commissioned to build a chalk tower at Flamborough Head to help guide ships around the coastline. Sadly it is doubtful if anyone actually lit the beacon but today, in 2005, lots of people flock to Flamborough to see the chalk tower.
In the the photograph I have taken up my position at Greenacres Caravan Park, as scarecrow number 77, in Flamboroughs very first scarecrow festival. I am holding a model of the chalk tower and scroll with information about the tower".

Hopefully this will become a yearly event, its certainly been fun this year!
